Quick Answer
You can mark an assignment as completed or change its due date yourself, without an Administrator, by selecting the assignment's options (three-dot) icon in your Assignments list on your Home page and choosing Mark as Completed or Change Due Date.
What This Article Helps With
This article is for users who want to mark one of their own assignments as completed, or change its due date, directly from their Assignments list - and for anyone checking why an assignment's due date or completion status changed.
Open the Options Menu for an Assignment
- Open your Home page.
- In your Assignments list, locate the assignment you want to update.
- Select the options (three-dot) icon on the assignment's card.
Confirm a menu opens with options including Resume, View, Mark as Completed, Change Due Date, Add to Bookmarks, Copy Link (Formatted), Copy Link (Unformatted), and, for a Course or Learning Path, Drop Course or Drop Learning Path. This article covers Mark as Completed and Change Due Date only — see "How to Drop an Assignment" for the Drop options.
Mark an Assignment as Completed
- In the options menu, select Mark as Completed.
-
If you haven't completed all of the assignment's requirements, a Complete Without Certificate? window appears, warning that you will not receive a certificate if you proceed. Select Complete to mark it complete anyway, or Cancel to keep working toward the certificate instead.
-
Otherwise, a Mark Course as Complete? window asks you to confirm. Select Complete to confirm, or Cancel to back out.
Confirm the assignment now shows a completed status in your Assignments list.
Change an Assignment's Due Date
- In the options menu, select Change Due Date.
- In the Change Due Date window, select the Due Date field to open the calendar.
- Choose a new date from the calendar, or select Today to set today's date, or Clear to remove the date you've entered so far.
-
Select Save.
This overwrites any due date previously set for the assignment. Confirm the assignment's due date now shows the date you selected.
Helpful Tips
- If an assignment's due date changed unexpectedly, this options menu is one possible way it happened, since selecting Change Due Date here overwrites any previously set due date.
- Marking an assignment as completed before meeting all of its requirements means you won't receive a certificate for it, as the Complete Without Certificate warning states.
