Quick Answer
A Group's details page has four tabs - Group Details, Group Members, Group Owners, and Parent & Child Groups - and permissions do not cascade from a parent Group to its child Groups. The parent/child Group hierarchy affects visibility for Assignments and Reporting only; use Inherit Permissions at the Group level to assign roles to members of a specific Group.
What This Article Helps With
This article is for Admins who want to understand how Groups are structured in Pinnacle Series - the Group Details page's tab layout, what Group Owners control, and how permissions move between a parent Group and its child Groups.
The Group Details Page
A Group's details page is organized into four tabs:
- Group Details - the Group's own settings.
- Group Members - the users who belong to the Group.
- Group Owners - the users designated as Group Owner for the Group.
- Parent & Child Groups - the Group's position in the Group hierarchy, including its parent Group (if any) and any child Groups beneath it.
What Group Ownership Controls
Group ownership drives both Assignor and Reporting Manager scope. A user designated as a Group's Owner can act as an Assignor for that Group's members, and Group ownership also determines Reporting Manager scope - which Groups' data a Reporting Manager can see in reporting.
Permissions Do Not Cascade Between Parent and Child Groups
Permissions do not cascade automatically from a parent Group to its child Groups. The parent/child Group hierarchy affects visibility for Assignments and Reporting only - for example, scope granted through Group ownership - not the permissions (roles) a Group's members hold. To assign roles to the members of a specific Group, use Inherit Permissions at that Group's level, rather than relying on a setting made on a parent Group to reach its child Groups automatically.
