Quick Answer
External users receive an access-denied error when trying to view an assigned Learning Path because the Library containing it isn't shared with their specific Group; a Library shared only with all Standard users is not automatically visible to External users.
What This Article Helps With
This article is for Pinnacle Series Administrators whose external users receive an access-denied error when trying to access content in an assigned Learning Path.
Symptoms
A user assigned to an External Group receives an access-denied message and cannot view content when trying to access an assigned Learning Path.
Cause
External users do not automatically have access to a Library that is shared only with all Standard users. For an external user to view the content, the Library must be shared specifically with the Group the external user belongs to.
Option 1: Share a Copy of the Library with the External Group
Use this option if the affected users need to remain classified as external users.
- Create a copy of the Library that contains the Learning Path.
- Share the copied Library specifically with the external users' Group.
- Keep the original Library shared with all Standard users.
Confirm the external users can now access the Learning Path through the copied Library.
Option 2: Change the User's Account Type to Standard
Use this option if the affected users are internal, or should have the same access as Standard users - their account type may be misconfigured.
- Remove the users from the External Group.
- Update their account profile to Standard.
Confirm the users can now access content shared with all Standard users, including the Learning Path.
