Quick Answer
A custom Certificate of Completion fails to populate data fields such as user name, date, or course title when the merge tag placeholders in the uploaded .docx certificate file are not formatted as continuous strings.
What This Article Helps With
This article is for Pinnacle Series Administrators whose custom Certificate of Completion does not populate data fields correctly after a user completes a custom Learning Path.
Symptoms
When a user completes a custom Learning Path and downloads the associated custom Certificate of Completion, the certificate fails to populate data fields correctly. For example, the user name, date, or course title field may be left blank or formatted incorrectly.
Cause
This occurs when the placeholder strings (merge tags) in the uploaded .docx certificate file are not formatted as continuous strings. This often happens when formatting breaks or floating values sit between the brackets of a merge tag.
Resolution
- Open the original .docx file used for the certificate.
- Locate the placeholder strings contained within brackets.
- Edit the text so the values between the brackets form continuous strings, with no hidden formatting breaks or floating values.
- Save the changes to the file.
- Upload the corrected file to replace the existing certificate.
Download a certificate to confirm the data fields now populate correctly.
