Quick Answer
A custom certificate of completion can be uploaded in two places: Content Tools Default Certificate of Completion sets the account-wide default, while an individual Learning Path can override it with its own certificate via Add Certificate at the bottom of its edit screen. Both accept a Word document (.doc, .docx, or .rtf, up to 5MB) using placeholder fields such as <USERNAME> and <COURSENAME>.
What This Article Helps With
This article is for Content Administrators who want to upload a custom account-wide certificate of completion, override it for a specific Learning Path, or understand which placeholder fields the certificate template supports.
Set the Account-Wide Default Certificate
- Open Content.
- Select Tools.
- Select Default Certificate of Completion.
-
Select Download Template for a starting template, if needed.
- Drag and drop your completed Word document onto the upload area, or select Browse Files to choose it. The file must be a .doc, .docx, or .rtf file no larger than 5MB.
- Select Save.
Confirm the new certificate is issued the next time a user completes a course that uses the account-wide default certificate.
Certificate Placeholder Fields
The downloaded template includes placeholder fields that are automatically populated when the certificate is issued, including:
- <USERNAME> — the name of the user who completed the content.
- <LPNAME> and <COURSENAME> — the Learning Path and Course name.
- <TIME_HRS> — the duration, in hours, shown alongside a <TIME_LBL> label tag.
- <COMPLETE_DATE> — the date the content was completed.
Keep these placeholder fields intact in your uploaded document so they populate correctly on the issued certificate.
Add a Custom Certificate to a Learning Path
A Learning Path can use its own custom certificate instead of the account-wide default.
- Open the Learning Path in edit mode.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Learning Path Content list.
- Select Add Certificate.
- In the Learning Path Certificate of Completion window, drag and drop your Word document onto the upload area, or select Browse Files to choose it, following the same file-type and size requirements as the account-wide default.
-
Select Done.
Confirm the Learning Path's certificate status no longer shows "No Certificate for this Learning Path," and that the custom certificate is issued the next time a user completes this Learning Path.
Subscription Content Always Uses the Default Certificate
Completions of subscription content always use the account-wide default certificate of completion, regardless of any custom certificate uploaded for the Learning Path or account.
Helpful Tips
- To remove a Learning Path's custom certificate and revert to the account-wide default, open the Learning Path's certificate window and select Restore Default.
