Quick Answer
There is no single fixed schedule for Active Directory or Entra ID synchronization with Pinnacle Series - we recommend scheduling your first synchronization outside normal business hours or during low Pinnacle Series usage, then scheduling subsequent synchronizations weekly, daily, or every couple of hours based on your organization's size and rate of user changes, making sure sync tasks don't overlap.
What This Article Helps With
This article is for Pinnacle Series Technical Administrators who have opted into Active Directory or Entra ID synchronization for user provisioning and want guidance on how frequently to schedule synchronization tasks.
Requirements to Run a Synchronization
To perform an Active Directory or Entra ID synchronization with Pinnacle Series, you must:
- Be a Pinnacle Series platform administrator.
- Be logged in to your organization's network.
- Have access to the Pinnacle Series Administration Portal (browser-based).
Scheduling Your First Synchronization
We recommend scheduling your first Active Directory or Entra ID synchronization outside of normal business hours, or when Pinnacle Series usage is at a minimum.
Scheduling Subsequent Synchronizations
Subsequent synchronizations can be scheduled more frequently than the first, since fewer users are typically added or removed during each run, so the impact on Pinnacle Series performance is minimal. When choosing a schedule, consider both the number of users and how frequently user data or attributes change.
- Most organizations schedule synchronization weekly or daily.
- If your organization has many offices or hires frequently, you can shorten the frequency to every couple of hours.
- Avoid scheduling synchronization tasks so that they overlap. For example, if your synchronization process takes 1.5 hours to complete, don't schedule tasks any more frequently than every 1.5 hours.
Performance Impact During Synchronization
The system that executes the Active Directory or Entra ID synchronization will consume resources during the process, and your Active Directory or Entra ID system may as well. General user performance in Pinnacle Series is not expected to be noticeably affected.
Verifying a Completed Synchronization
After a synchronization completes, view the user list in Pinnacle Series to confirm which Groups your users were added to.
