Understanding SSO and Seamless Login Integration Between Pinnacle Series and KnowledgeSmart

Question:

  • If a we have SSO enabled in Pinnacle, will that SSO configuration also apply to KnowledgeSmart?
  • Specifically, when a user clicks the URL link in the assessment assignment email, will they be automatically logged into KnowledgeSmart, or will they still need to enter a password?

Common Causes/Issues:

  1. SSO Expectations Across Platforms

    • Users assume that enabling SSO in Pinnacle Series automatically extends to KnowledgeSmart, creating uncertainty about whether additional login credentials are required.

  2. Confusion with Assessment Email Links

    • Clicking on the assessment assignment link doesn’t consistently log users in, making them wonder if the link should trigger automatic SSO login or require a password input.

  3. Unclear SSO Configuration Requirements

    • Does a single SSO setup cover both Pinnacle and KnowledgeSmart?

Solution Overview:

    • Assessment Link Access
      When users receive an assessment invitation link in an email, they are directed to the Pinnacle Series login page. Here, they can log in using their Pinnacle credentials—either manually or via SSO if enabled in Pinnacle Series.

      • Redirection to KnowledgeSmart
        Upon successful login in Pinnacle, users are automatically redirected to the specific KnowledgeSmart assessment they were invited to, bypassing the need for a separate KnowledgeSmart password.

    • Direct Login to KnowledgeSmart
      For direct logins via the KnowledgeSmart URL (e.g., accessing assessments via “My Assessments” in KnowledgeSmart), users still need to enter their KnowledgeSmart credentials, as SSO does not currently extend to direct KnowledgeSmart access.

    • Future Enhancement
      • There is potential for a future release to offer direct login to KnowledgeSmart with Pinnacle credentials, though this feature is not available yet.

        The current SSO integration between Pinnacle Series and KnowledgeSmart enables seamless login access under specific conditions. 

 

Summary

  • Currently, users experience a seamless login to KnowledgeSmart when accessing assessments through a Pinnacle Series invitation link. However, direct KnowledgeSmart access requires KnowledgeSmart credentials. This integration reduces login steps for assessment invitations but does not cover all access scenarios.
