Quick Answer
Pinnacle Series exposes two separate APIs - the Platform API (versions v1 and v2) at prodgenapi.azurewebsites.net, and the Reporting API at reporting.pinnacleapis.com - each with its own Swagger documentation, its own authentication flow, and its own API key that must be requested separately. Access to one does not grant access to the other.
What This Article Helps With
This article is for Technical/IT contacts deciding which Pinnacle Series API to use for an integration, and explains why you may need to request API credentials twice if your integration uses both systems.
The Platform API (v1/v2)
The Platform API is hosted at prodgenapi.azurewebsites.net and supports versions v1 and v2 - for example, POST /api/v2/assignments/CreateAssignment and GET /api/workgroups. It is documented and tested through its own Swagger UI, and calls are authenticated using an API Key.
The existing Platform API guidance covers the authentication steps only in a PDF or video attachment, not in the article's own text. If you can't access that attachment, confirm the current authentication steps with Support.
The Reporting API
The Reporting API is hosted at a separate base URL, https://reporting.pinnacleapis.com/api/swagger/ui, and uses its own authentication flow: request an API Key from Eagle Point Support, call GET /authinfo?email={yourEmail} to retrieve your tenant information, then POST /authorize to obtain a Bearer Token for use in Swagger. It covers reporting and analytics endpoints such as /reporting/content and /reporting/courseEnrollments. Available documentation does not confirm a specific version number for the Reporting API the way the Platform API is labeled v1/v2.
See the Pinnacle Series API Reporting Guide for the full, step-by-step authentication walkthrough.
Each API Requires Its Own API Key
The Platform API and the Reporting API are separate systems with separate credentials. An API Key issued for one does not grant access to the other. If your integration needs both, request access to each one separately from Eagle Point Support.
Helpful Tips
- If you're not sure which API an endpoint belongs to, check its base URL: prodgenapi.azurewebsites.net is the Platform API, and reporting.pinnacleapis.com is the Reporting API.
- See Reporting API Coverage for Assessments and KnowledgeSmart Logins and Retrieving a List of Workgroups and Their Owners for examples of endpoints on each system.
